The Museo della Salumeria is the first museum in Italy dedicated to the production and history of charcuterie making. It is in Castelnuovo Rangone, Modena (7 km from the Ferrari Museum), alongside the headquarters of Villani Salumi (1886), Emilia-Romagna’s oldest producer of fine charcuterie.
Upon entering the museum, you are welcomed by a tour guide that will accompany you on food lovers adventure in the fascinating world of charcuterie. During the tour you will discover three main areas that are set up in 10 stations:
MuSa offers a sensory and multimedia experience that illustrates the different phases in creating charcuterie, giving an insider’s view of the craftsmanship process from start to finish as if you were inside the production facility.
You will then walk down to the “cantina” or cellar where Prosciutto di Parma and San Daniele are exposed. And here, you discover the secret ingredient for cured prosciutto: time. At the end of the journey, a Villani gift bag will leave you with a memory of a truly Italian experience. Tastings of our fine charcuterie served on the museum’s terrace will resume in summer 2022. The museum also organizes tailor made tastings for small groups in its reception hall upon request.
